Luxology modo 501 released

modo delivers the next evolution of 3D modeling, painting and rendering in a single integrated and accelerated package for the Mac and PC. And now, modo is a true end-to-end solution that includes true 3D sculpting tools, animation and network rendering! More than just features, modo is a truly elegant integration of technology, raw horsepower and refined workflow.

Workflow and general performance have been accelerated in the back end of the new modo version. The licensed Pixar Subdivision Surfaces have been added for sharper creases and improved transferability of light angles. Sculpting tools now work on multi-resolution meshes, facilitating both coarse and fine adjustments to surfaces as needed. RayGL now brings even greater realism in modo viewports, effectively merging modeling and rendering. A new visual connection editor has been added to simplify animation rigging. Using the Preview Renderer allows a focused render for areas of interest. And a 'one click' Snap system in the modelling tools allows users to accelerate common modelling operations.

Rendering has been measured at a 30%-40% speed increase. Texture baking and final rendering both benefit.  During a web based demonstration CEO Brad Peebler showed the performance of the renderer and the depth of field quality, as well as the many Fur effects and new Occlusion texturing option that generates weathered effects for desired outputs.  Very impressive.
